Orc Full Body Model

Project Type

3D Modelling

Date

December 2025

Final Modelling Project of an Orc from 3D Game Art 2, 2025. For this project we were given roughly 5 options of references to choose from to model, texture, and pose for our final. I chose this specific option since I hadn't previously experimented with and kind of full body fantasy character as well as since it had transparent elements which I had also not experimented with. Overall I feel it turned out quite well but wasn't super happy with how the transparent pieces came out as they can somewhat allow view into the inside of the model.

This project was a culmination of every other organic structure model I had done up until this point. The reference was a completely different stylization than anything else I had worked with which made things difficult, but I started the same as usual with reference planes and primitive starting geometry to create the head first. The head was a bit of a struggle as the reference I was given didn't have a consistent front facing view, but also had an extremely large neck/trap muscles which made things look proportionately incorrect during the creation process. After completing the head, I made a huge mistake though. I had forgotten to create a new edit poly overtop of my head's TurboSmooth, which made attached object also get the TurboSmooth modifier which inflated my poly count, which I hadn't realized until I was slightly over my limit. Unfortunately, by the time I was near end of my project when I realized, it was too baked into the rest of the model that I couldn't undo it, which made me have to delete a lot of other loops that helped with some other forms on the model.

Overall, I did learn a lot from this project despite the fact that I think it is one of my most flawed. Ultimately, I was happy enough with what I turned in, but I knew I could do better. This project taught me to make sure I carefully inspect my modifier stack/hierarchy and make sure I have backups of my project. I also learned about transparency texturing even though I wasn't happy with the way the fur turned out when I textured it.
